Servicebay vs Housecall Pro: Same Features, a Fraction of the Price
Housecall Pro charges $59–329/month. Here's why you don't need to pay that much — and what you get with Servicebay instead.
Housecall Pro is charging you $59–329/month. Here's why you don't need to pay that much.
Housecall Pro is solid software. Let's get that out of the way.
But it's also expensive, locked to home services, and English-only. Their cheapest plan is $79/month for a single user ($59/month if you pay annually). Want a team of 5? That's $149/month on annual billing — or $189/month if you pay monthly. Want anything beyond the basics? Custom pricing on MAX.
And here's the kicker: their Basic plan can't even connect to QuickBooks or track employee GPS. Most teams end up on Essentials at $149–189/month just to get table-stakes features.
Meanwhile, Servicebay starts at $9/seat/month (Basic — jobs, customers, scheduling) or $29/seat/month (Pro — quoting, invoicing, payments, inventory, reporting, and accounting sync), with a 30-day free trial and no credit card required.
Let's break it down.
The short answer
Housecall Pro is the more complete product, and it costs between three and ten times as much. Basic is $59/month annually for one user but can't connect to QuickBooks or track employee GPS, so most teams land on Essentials at $149/month for five users, or MAX at $299/month for eight.
Servicebay Pro is $29 per seat per month annually with quoting, invoicing, payments, inventory, 8 reports, and both Xero and QuickBooks sync included. A five-person team on Pro is $145/month against Essentials' $149 — but every Servicebay seat has the full feature set, and you can drop field techs to Basic at $9 to cut that further.
Where Housecall Pro clearly wins, and it's not close: online booking, review management and employee GPS tracking are live on their platform and still on our roadmap. They also have a far bigger support organisation and are purpose-built for US home services. If those three features are how you run your business, buy Housecall Pro. If you want the core job-to-invoice workflow without paying enterprise money for it — and especially if you're outside US home services or need a language other than English — that's the gap Servicebay fills.

Factor in Housecall Pro add-ons (Sales Proposals $40/mo, Vehicle GPS $20/vehicle/mo, Price Book $149/mo) and the gap widens further.
That's not a rounding error. That's a used van. That's new tools. That's a holiday.

The "Home Services Only" Problem
Housecall Pro was built for plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, and cleaners. Their entire product, marketing, and support is geared toward home services.
Run an auto repair shop? Sorry. Phone repair business? Not their thing. Bike workshop? Jewellery repairs? Appliance servicing? Nope.
Servicebay works across 71 service industries. We don't care if you're fixing pipes or fixing phones — a job is a job, a customer is a customer, and an invoice is an invoice.
Features You're Paying Too Much For
Lowest entry price vs. Housecall Pro's $59/month floor
Servicebay Basic starts at $9/seat/month (annual) for jobs, customers, scheduling, and customisation. Housecall Pro's cheapest plan is $59/month for a single user — and their Basic tier can't even connect to QuickBooks.
What Servicebay Pro includes that Housecall Pro locks behind $149–189/month:
- Professional invoices and quotes
- Online payments (Stripe — web and in-person card reader)
- Inventory management (Housecall Pro doesn't have this at any price)
- Xero and QuickBooks Online sync
- Automated invoice reminders
- 8 built-in business reports
- Digital signatures
Housecall Pro locks QuickBooks integration behind their $149/month Essentials plan. On Servicebay, both Xero and QuickBooks sync are included on Pro. They also charge extra for Sales Proposals ($40/month), Vehicle GPS ($20/vehicle/month), and their Price Book ($149/month).
11 Languages vs. 1
Housecall Pro supports English. Just English.
Servicebay supports 11 languages. If your customers, team members, or community speak something other than English, Servicebay works for everyone. In a country like Australia — or anywhere with a diverse population — that matters.
What Housecall Pro Does Better (Being Honest)
- Online booking — customers can book appointments through a branded portal
- Review management — automated review requests after jobs
- Employee GPS tracking — see where your team is in real-time
- Email marketing tools — built into their Essentials plan
These are real features that some businesses need. If your entire business depends on online booking and automated review collection, Housecall Pro might make sense for you.
But ask yourself: are those features worth $100+ more per month? And are they worth being locked into a platform that only serves home services businesses?

Frequently asked questions
Is Servicebay a good Housecall Pro alternative?
If cost is what's pushing you to look, yes — Servicebay Pro delivers the core job, quote, invoice and payment workflow at $29 per seat instead of $149–299 a month. If you rely on online booking, review management or employee GPS tracking, then no, not yet: those are live on Housecall Pro and still on our roadmap, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
How much does Housecall Pro cost?
Basic is $79/month for one user, or $59/month billed annually. Essentials is $189/month for five users, or $149 annually. MAX is $329/month for eight users, or $299 annually. Worth checking before you sign: premium features such as review management sit above those tiers, so the plan price isn't necessarily the final bill — their pricing page lists what's included where.
Why can't Housecall Pro's Basic plan connect to QuickBooks?
It's a tier restriction, not a technical one. QuickBooks sync begins on Essentials at $149/month annually. Servicebay includes both QuickBooks Online and Xero sync in Pro at $29 per seat, with no higher tier to buy.
Does Servicebay have online booking?
Not yet — it's on the roadmap. Housecall Pro has it today, along with review management and employee GPS. If customer self-booking is central to how you take work, Housecall Pro is the right choice for now.
Is Servicebay only for home services?
No, and this is the sharpest difference between the two. Housecall Pro is built specifically for US home services. Servicebay covers 71 service industries — repair shops, auto workshops, appliance servicing, IT services and more — in 11 languages, on iOS, Android and web.
Can I mix plan tiers across my team?
Yes. Basic and Pro seats live on one account with a separate seat count each, so techs who only need to see their jobs are $9 while whoever quotes and invoices is $29. One account, one invoice. Both tiers share the same billing interval.
Is there a free trial, and do I need a credit card?
30 days with full Pro access, and no credit card. Nothing to cancel if you decide against it. Housecall Pro offers a 14-day trial.
Comparing other platforms
Housecall Pro is one of three platforms most crews shortlist. Here are the other two:
- Servicebay vs ServiceM8 — Australian-built, but capped on job count and thin on Android
- Servicebay vs Jobber — why the tier you actually need costs more than the sticker price
- Best job quoting software — the whole category, ranked
Built for trades
Servicebay is used by HVAC, plumbing, and electrical crews — not only generic "home services" labels.
- HVAC software — scheduling, installs, and service tickets
- Plumbing software — callouts, quotes, and on-site invoices
- Electrical contractor software — jobs, board work, and crew schedules
